  1. 1957

    Joined the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
  2. 1975

    The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) ratified The Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement with IAEA concluded
  3. 1991

    The Joint Declaration on Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula issued
  4. 1993

    The Nuclear Control Division(now AECD) was established at MOST
  5. 1994

    The Technology Center for Nuclear Control (TCNC) at KAERI established
  6. 1995

    The Atomic Energy Act revised. Jointed the NSG and the Zangger Committee for export control
  7. 1996

    The TCNC was designated as the body that provides technical assistance for implementing safeguards and oversees matters related to physical protection, nuclear material accountancy, physical protection guidelines and inspection regulations.
  8. 1999

    Additional Protocol with the IAEA signed
  9. 2001

    An MOU on Korea-IAEA LWR Enhanced Cooperation concluded
  10. 2002

    Enhanced cooperation between Korea and the IAEA regarding LWRs commenced
  11. 2003.02

    Department of nuclear security & protection established
  12. 2004.02

    The Additional Protocol ratified and entered into effect. The Act for Physical Protection and Radiological Emergency enacted and entered into effect.
  13. 2004.09

    The “Four Principles on the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy” announced
  14. 2004.10

    The National Nuclear Management and Control Agency (NNCA) established
  15. 2005.01

    Organization of the NNCA expanded to seven departmensts.
  16. 2006.06

    Establishment of KINAC
  17. 2008

    IAEA applied IS(Integrated Safeguards) to Korea.
  18. 2011.10

    KINAC was realigned to operate under the umbrella of the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission in accordance with a new law.
