And the two faces of nuclear power we encountered.

A gram of uranium can become a 'miracle' or a 'calamity' to mankind, capable of acting as a savior or a fatal threat.

It is now time to find the 'true face' of nuclear power by shifting our focus from 'rapid growth' to 'mature use'.

Aspiring to achieve nuclear transparency and peaceful use of nuclear power, KINAC is ensuring the peaceful face of nuclear power!

Aims and Objectives of INSA

As demand for nuclear power increases in today's global society, the mission and role of the Republic of Korea as a "model nation for peaceful uses of nuclear power" and "supplier nation of nuclear power plant" is becoming important. Under such situation, role of the Korea Institute of Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Control, KINAC, has become invaluable.

In pursuance to new issues of nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security, and also for international cooperation in securing nuclear transparency,

KINAC, the uniqueKorean institute specializing in nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security, is opening International Nuclear Nonproliferation and Security Academy(INSA), the first Asia-pacific nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security training and education center of excellenceaiming atsharingKorea's experience and expertise in nuclear nonproliferation and security with the world and further strengthening the global system!

At the 2010 Washington Nuclear Security Summit, Korea shared its view with the international community that training of experts who possess the understanding and capability in the latest nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security technology is of utmost importance.

In this regard, Korea has promised to the international community the establishment of INSA, an integrated space of tests, researches, education and training for nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security. Upholding that promise, KINAC has finally established INSA - and a new journey for nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security begins!

Educational Features of INSA

The need for specialized education and the training of experts to secure nuclear transparency and strengthen nuclear security is growing steadily, INSA will cultivate international experts in the area of nuclear nonproliferation and security so that Korea can contribute to the world as a global leader in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy, prioritizing its dedication toward nuclear nonproliferation and development of professionalism.

Taking a step beyond merely cultivating experts, KINAC is aimed at nurturing global leader in the field of nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security! Through INSA, KINAC will strive to increase the public awareness on nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security by providing various programs to experts in relevant fields as well as officials of new comer countries for nuclear power program.

Basic Training Strategy of INSA

INSA is realizing 'customized' training programs and research projects through the development of creative international courses that meets the global standard! INSA has developed programs that reflect the needs of newcomer countries, which will be delivered by global experts from home and abroad to ensure effective and practical training.

Main training program involves trainings on safeguards, nuclear security, import and export control. Other various campaigns and courses will be provided to raise public awareness on nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security.

By realizing cultivation of domestic and overseas experts as well as increasing public awareness on nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security through INSA, KINAC will obtain credibility from the world in nuclear transparency as the global leader in the field of nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security!

Introduction of Key Research Infrastructure

Through the external test facility that is designed identically to the actual environment, INSA will conduct a performance test on nuclear security facilities and equipment along with actual training and education.

External physical protection test facility is located at the training center site and consists of 4 sectors for carrying out tasks involving detection, delay and counter response. The facility will establish itself as a special research and training institute in the Asia Region that can conduct both research & development as well as tests.

INSA will provide diversified training programs, with its Test-Bed, that recreated the physical protection environment of each power plant in the ROK, and central alarm station capable of real-time monitoring, and also with its divers lecture rooms for personnel training.
